FMA

Functional Mandibular Advancer Efficient, stable and versatile – class II correction that operates independently

The Functional Mandibular Advancer (FMA) is an innovative appliance for treating class II malocclusions in which the lower jaw is retruded in comparison to the upper jaw. Developed by Prof. Dr. Gero Kinzinger and Dr. Jens Ostheimer, the FMA is a fixed, rigid appliance that achieves greater skeletal changes compared to flexible appliances and effectively moves the jaw into the correct position.

The FMA consists of push-bars and inclined planes that are attached to splints or bands. These ensure precise, continuous movement of the mandible and promote remodeling of the temporomandibular joint, enabling long-term results.

Your benefits

Independent of cooperation

The FMA offers accelerated correction of the occlusal position without patient cooperation.

Effective therapy

The FMA can reduce tipping of the mandibular front by applying distal forces, repositioning the disc and correcting mandibular pivoting.

Stable construction

The appliance’s robust design and lack of moving parts allow for easy intraoral reactivation.

Flexible application

The FMA can be combined with lingual orthodontics and splint therapy.
