The FAS Aligner System – A user report

In recent years, aligners have become increasingly popular. The global market for aligners continues to grow rapidly and appears to be replacing fixed appliances as the most common means of orthodontic treatment. This seems to be an irreversible process that we must therefore take seriously. As more and more people are choosing aligners, the amount of waste generated by this treatment method has become a significant issue.
Each treatment consists of a series of aligners that are changed at intervals of a few weeks or even days. This results in an enormous number of discarded aligners. Although these transparent, removable trays offer numerous advantages, concern is growing about their impact on the environment. Their excessive production and improper disposal contribute to microplastic pollution and environmental degradation.
